Steve Butler works for a large mining company. Steve's task is to convince land and territory owners to sign a contract with them. One day, he and his partner Sue Thomason go to a rundown town where people are mostly engaged in farming. Life here is so miserable that there is not a single doubt — the residents will quickly agree to the proposed conditions. The essence of the agreement is to search for natural gas, the company gets the right to use it, and the farmers are rewarded.<br />
And so, a tremendous amount of work has been done, people are looking forward to wealth and a better life, when suddenly there is a young guy who begins open propaganda against drilling wells. He works as a local teacher and runs a farm on his property. Ecology and natural resources are running out, as evidenced by the blackened earth and dead animals. The guy urges people to stop being mercantile and think about what the drilling of their lands will lead to. After all, having received a one-time profit, you can not only lose your household, but also your own dignity. Is it possible to forget about the environment, which is the home of every human being? <br />
Meanwhile, Steve's disgruntled leadership forces him to immediately finish what he started, although he himself is no longer sure of the correctness of his work. Which will overcome greed and profit-seeking, or human dignity?<br />
